Satisfied customer

Further to my piece about Hawke and Hunter in Edinburgh (HERE), Joseph K has posted this comment:

Just paid a visit last night after your recommendation, surely the finest outdoor/indoor smoking area I've seen so far.

Take a trip back in time, sit at the bar, fag in one hand drink in the other, I asked the barman if he was bothered by the amoke and he replied it was adaquately ventilated for him and he was also an ex-smoker.

I was the oldest fogey there (41), as the place was teeming with folk in their 20's happily fagging away and not giving a shit about so-called ETS/SMS.

Come summer when the canopy comes back will be standing room only, oh and yes the indoor bars are very cool as well. Nice to see someone make an effort for us pariahs.

That's the sort of comment that makes this blog worthwhile.

Great to hear of all these good smoking venues.
I'm praying and wishing hard that the smoke police will be made redundant like the rest of the unfortunate citizens. Why should those irritating and useless bastards be immune from unemployment too.
Wonder do they get gilt edged pensions like the rest of the smoking gestapo in those big brother quangos like Ash etc.
How in the name of god can the labour govt, in the name of equality, justify giving big salaries to these blood sucking creeps that are sucking the life's blood out of business and trade in this recession, the likes of which we have not seen before, and who are responsible for closing down pubs and restaurants, the very places that would be a port in a storm for people in these dark times.
Its about time that people demanded an investigation into the number of these quangos to see if half or more can be disbanded with and the money put to better use, like the front line of the health service.

Sorry to report on my last visit the local cooncil smoke gestapo had been a visiting and said they can only make it a smoking area as long as the canopies are open.

No ashtrays and the shamefaced barman escorted us to the front basement open to the elements, though they did at least have some chairs a bin and a heater.

Seems the cooncil interprets the legislation as - if it's raining, oot ye gang...
