Breaking news

I was due to appear on Aljazeera this afternoon, taking part in a 30-minute discussion on the Inside Story programme. At midday however I got an email saying the item was postponed "due to breaking news in the Middle East".
What could be more important than World No Tobacco Day?

ASH will be complaining to the Israeli Government, stealing the limelight
on their Holy of Holies day.
I was wondering why the bank holiday had been moved from Whit Monday.

Alex Deane of Big Brother Watch is on the money at Conservative talking about the state's invasive questioning of our lifetyles into smoking and drinking. Surprise, surprise Alex is a speaker at the Voices Of Freedom debates.

Here is a taste.

"On their latest bout of nannyism, Big Brother Watch would say that we are entitled to have a drink when we want one. Doctors are there to heal us, and can keep their opinions about lifestyles to themselves unless they're asked – after all, we pay the tax which pays for the health service. We've got to decide what kind of society we want to live in - one in which the state tells us what to do, or one in which the state is answerable to us. I prefer the latter, and had hoped that we'd lived in such. "
