Invitation to Smoke-Free England?

SFE-invite.jpgThe directors of Forest and Boisdale of Belgravia cordially invite readers of Taking Liberties to a party to mark the first anniversary of the public smoking ban in England.

The event - with cocktails, canapes, speeches and live jazz - takes place at Boisdale on Tuesday June 24 from 7.00pm.

Bring a friend but places are limited and by invitation only. RSVP Georgina at Forest (events@forestonline.org) with your full name and address and we will send you your FREE ticket/s.

Smokers (how can I put this?) are especially welcome!

This sort of thing is pointless. The only way the smoking ban will be changed is if a few thousand people are willing to flout the law, and, in the process, be prepared to perhaps stump up a couple of £50 fines each. Ask yourselves why there is effectively no hunting ban.

I disagree, Jon, The smoking ban must be overturned at root level. People on these sites are putting a great deal of effort into this. I, for one, would love to meet my fellow activists face to face. I will certainly apply for an invitation.

Jon, I agree with Margot. The last two dinners not only had to contend with oiks like me but there are a lot of politicians and journalists like Rob Liddle attended. Rob is the former editor of Radio 4s Today Programme and writes for the Spectator.

"Smokers are a convenient and politically correct target for those who wish to take out their inchoate anger but are sharp enough to realise that, these days, you can't vent it on Jews or homosexuals."

Rod Liddle, Sunday Times, 25 June 2006"

Hi I am so sorry I will not be able to come but hope that all smokers will attend. I will be there in spirit. I am so annoyed at the way we are all treated like naughty little children. They have brought out a supersmoker and still this will never be allowed to be smoked in a public place.regards amandah

Ladies and Gentlemen are we going to have a Taking Liberties get together if you are going? I am hopefully, at Simon and Georgina's discretion. So perhaps we can have a roll call and work out a time and place at Boisdale.

I wish I could be there as I would love to meet everyone but as there is nowhere I can stay in London I will have to pass on it as my train journey is 2 hours from Victoria.

May I suggest that all those who can attend wear a name badge?

I'm now coming too. Perhaps we could meet on the cigar terrace at a particular time to introduce ourselves to each other - that's where we're likely to be!!
