Walk this way
On Saturday I linked to THIS report. Paul Toole, one of the two men at the centre of the story, subsequently got in touch to tell us that he is organising a "protest walk" in Wells, Somerset, this Saturday, July 14th.
"We will all meet at Penniless Porch, Cathedral Green, Wells, at 12 midday, and will continue down the High Street, ending at The Sherston Inn, Glastonbury Road. Please come and support us, if not in opposition to the ban but for freedom of choice!!"
To demonstrate our support we have donated 75 Forest t-shirts featuring our 'Fight the ban: fight for choice' logo. For more information call Paul on 01749 672747 or 07722852224.
Spoke to Paul again this morning. He has never done anything like this before and is rather nervous! The walk, he says, will take about 30 minutes. Estimated number of walkers vary from 70 to 200. En route Paul will address Saturday shoppers via his own professional sound system and there will also be some stirring music - Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance was mentioned! If you live anywhere near Wells, please support this initiative.
Paul's business partner Chris Elliot told the BBC that some 40 people took part in the walk. Report HERE.

I didn't know FOREST was fighting the ban. Could you tell me what FOREST is doing to fight the ban (or point me to the relevant article)?
Is there a plan of action that we can support?
Simon, I've just noticed this statement by you on another article:
"If councils value local pubs, let's hope the majority take a sensible, pragmatic approach to the ban - or, better still (but less likely), support efforts to amend the legislation. If not, we could see an increasing number of 'for sale' signs outside Britain's pubs and clubs."
...but I still don't see where your slogan 'Fight the ban... fight for choice' actually leads. If you are putting t-shirts out with this logo on, it suggests that Forest has a real campaign underway that people can involve themselves in in order to fight the ban, but I can't see any details of that campaign anywhere.
Could you point me to it please, or provide the details here? I find it quite difficult to find information on the Forest site, so perhaps I've missed it?
yes point it out simon. ive missed it to.destroy the image.
Brilliant, Paul and Chris!!! About time someone DID something about this legislation which is actually treating citizens like kids in a kindergarden. Shame I missed the walk in Wells! But there is supposed to be another one in Glastonbury next month...at least the newspaper said so. Feeling very concerned about the erosion of our freedom of choice and all this totalitarian infringement upon our private lives, I do want to join in here. Could you put me in touch with Paul and Chris? If there's another walk, I do not want to miss it!
Thank you in advance,
Petra
Petra - I hope you find this! Here's details of the Glastonbury march posted by Paul in a more recent topic (All Light Up in Protest on the blog front page)
I've written to Forest to ask that they give this maximum publicity, please feel free to do the same! :)
We are holding our second march here in Somerset.
We're all meeting in SILVER STREET CARPARK, GLASTONBURY on SAT AUG 11th at 12 NOON,
The march will take around one hour 20 mins. After which we will then go back to a pro-choice pub!!
If you'd like any further details please contact me directly on 01749 672747, 07885437854, 07722852224 or Email opposetheban@aol.com
Looking forward to meeting some of you.
