Sinner repents
Saturday, October 13, 2007
Fined £50 for smoking in his cab (even though he wasn't carrying a passenger), taxi driver Iftikhar Ahmed says he has learned his lesson. He told the Daily Mail: "The smoking ban is a good law. I was caught breaking it and have been punished. I have been smoking 40 to 60 cigarettes a day since 1971, and could do with cutting down anyway."
Aaaaarrrrgggghhh! Full story HERE.

This reminds me of 1984 - when the character Parsons was arrested and said his kids had done the right thing for denouncing him - for his own good. Also - on the telescreens there were people talking about their thoughtcrime and how they had been saved - saved from themselves! Pass the sickbucket!! I need it now.
There are many countries throughout the world with dictators and the people constantly repent to prevent further punishment.
Indeed, Simon, nothing like wallowing in sin!
I was in Bulgaria recently looking at property and asked our guide about the smoking ban invading Bulgaria. He said, very simply, most people here remember that we are only 50 years out of one dictatorship, they will not put with another. Basically they will return to being totally self sufficient, growing most of their food and swapping and bartering with neighbours for the rest - they will close the towns and cities down rather than allow the smallest indication of another dictatorship. He also said, to believe him, the people there would do it, but it would all be very quiet and low key, until the towns and cities realised how little trade they were doing.
Pity we can't be a little more self sufficient here in the UK!
