Five Live tonight
I'm on Five Live tonight discussing teenage smoking with presenter Tony Livesey Ian Payne (left) and others. Tomorrow morning, around 7.45, I'm on BBC Radio Cumbria talking about tobacco and whether the Government should ban it. Following that, I think I'm on Radio Belfast as well.
23:25 ... On Five Live I was on with a Birmingham GP, Dr Fay Wilson, who was sooooooo patronising. (Fay Wilson: that name rings a bell.) Anyway, if I heard her correctly, she seemed to suggest that smoking is a sure way to end up poor and ugly. Nice. I wonder if she speaks to her patients like that. (Click HERE - about 38 minutes in.)
23:31 ... I have just received a rather nice email. "Dear Friend," it reads. "Just writing to congratulate your speaker on the radio re the smoking ban. I'm 42 and don't smoke but feel very uncomfortable with the fascist treatment of smokers - it is selective racism as far as I'm concerned, and if any other group of people had been treated like this, the international community would have been up in arms, and the EU would have drawn up sanctions. Good luck to you all."

Fingers crossed** for a presenter who asks some ORIGINAL questions, for once.
Such as:
"Why SHOULD it be the business of Government in a Free Society (only jokin') to....etc ?"
That sort of thing.
(But don't keep them crossed for too long)**
"she seemed to suggest that smoking is a sure way to end up poor and ugly........"
Where did SHE do her training ?
Just another Rent-a-Bore medico who's caught a bad dose of claptrap.
She should visit my clinic...................................
I'm already at the stage where I'm poor and ugly, bugger all to do with smoking though, so the good Doctor can go and feck herself.
Now - if she wrote a prescription for being rich and handsome....
Poor and ugly? Is that the best the trout can do? Very persuasive argument from a medic. How desperate can you get?
Smoking makes you poor and ugly?
Doesn't the woman ever go out into the real world?
She is obviously a simpleton and not worth debating with or about. End of story!
It was good to hear a presenter staying neutral and silencing that stupid woman when she tried to talk over you. Good performance Simon.
