Eye spy Lembit
Saturday, July 17, 2010
I was going to mention that Lembit Opik was at the Forest party on Wednesday - but someone got there first (see above from Eye Spy MP on Twitter).
The following day a second tweet appeared:
Charming.

Hope that whinging gate crasher tweeter was thrown overboard where he belongs with the anchor stuck up his jacksie.
I can see the reason for Phillip Davies MP and Greg Knight MP being there...but why toothpick...has he ever spoken up on behalf of smokers. Does he ever do much else besides self promotion?
"Put your sighting in the subject line and it will be auto-tweeted. Crowd sourced gossip."
Looks like you had an ASH spy on board, Simon.
Chris, as a Lib Dem MP Lembit consistently denounced the smoking ban. He supported Forest's 'Fight For Choice: Fight The Ban' campaign, speaking at a Forest press conference in the Palace of Westminster, and he is a supporter of the Save Our Pubs and Clubs: Amend The Smoking Ban campaign. Unlike most of his former colleagues, Lembit is a genuine liberal and we are always pleased to see him at our events.
I was alerted to him by my wife, Frances, who told me she was very worried about a strange looking man with a twisted smile ogling her at the bar. "that's not a strange looking man" I told her, "that's just a fool in a Halloween mask"
Turned out I was wrong....it was Lembit....
I posted that before I knew he supported us Simon. Please delete it
Yes, Lembit is one of the Good Guys.
And Mr/Mrs/Miss Tweeter should learn how to spell.
The word is 'whingEing'.
Unless you're an American - or the recipient of State Education within the last twenty years.......................
All I can say is that as soon as I have managed to extract my foot from my mouth, I will unreservedly apologise for trying to be so boringly funny without looking into the subject matter first.
I have in front of me a paper produced by Julian Harris of www.liberal-vision.org the classical liberal grouping of the Liberal Democrats. Entitled "How liberal are the Liberal Democrats" and top out of 60 odd Lib Dem MPs is Lembit Opik, 5% points ahead of David Laws.
Lembit voted against every restriction on smoking, voted against every "Big Brother" state intrusion and voted for the legalisation of cannabis. Further I have had the privilege of enjoying his company for a few hours and he sets the standards for being a true liberal.
Lembit could even be Taking Liberties' mascot.
Lembit Opik is probably the only LibDem who voted against the blanket ban. Probably his eccentricity, going against the party line, and taking his 'liberty' into his private life lost him his seat. He may look a little odd to some people, and dumping Sian Lloyd for something younger and sexier may have lost him a few friends, but he is not the only man who would say yes to a cheeky girl!
I just realised that some of you will not know that his ex fiance Sian Lloyd is a weather girl/presenter on a Welsh local TV channel. When I uses the term cheeky girl I was referring to one of a set of twins of Eastern European origin, a pop duo called 'The Cheeky Girls'.
"dumping Sian Lloyd"
I believe it was the other way round.
haha I think you are right Dick, was it not after she discovered he had been playing away?
Well done DP I have been wrestling with my conscience all day. I think you will find that Lembit's relationship ended with Sian Lloyd before he dated the Cheeky Girl.
I think I mentioned the war once but I think I got away with it Sybil.
One of my colleagues at the Progressive Conservatives Stephen Hoffman has written a particularly well informed piece on the smoking ban for The Freedom Association (TFA). The TFA includes such worthies as Roger Helmer MEP and Philip Davies MP. He obviously has done his research properly, I am sure you would like to comment and praise such a good article.

He was there ? Was he in a cunning disguise ? O dear - I hope he wasn't the guy from whom I demanded a canape with menaces ....
