Election 2010: Martin Cullip (Libertarian)
Neither Forest nor The Free Society can endorse or support any one political party but between now and the election I am going to highlight some of those candidates who are broadly supportive of our position on lifestyle issues such as smoking, eating and drinking.
Martin Cullip is a name that may be familiar to readers of The Free Society website. If you have attended some of our events you may also recognise his face. Martin is standing in Sutton & Cheam on behalf of the fledgling Libertarian party which is fighting the election with a total of, er, two candidates. (The other is Nic Coome in Devizes.)
Sutton & Cheam is currently in the hands of the Liberal Democrats. "My support," says Martin, "comes from working class types who wouldn't vote Tory as their families tend to have originally migrated from inner South London. They don't want to vote Labour but Tory is too much of a wrench. That's how Sutton & Cheam became a Lib Dem seat in 1997 after brief flirtations following a solid history of Toryism."
For more information click HERE or see Martin's Facebook page HERE. You can read Martin's articles on The Free Society website HERE.
PS. Martin is writing a piece about his candidacy which will be published by The Free Society in the next few days. Watch this space.

Good luck Martin
May I wish Martin the best of luck too. I find it interesting that many smokers have, rather than sit around moaning have got off their backsides and tried do something about it. Whether it is becoming an activist for UKIP or in Pat Nurse's case become a Parliamentary candidate.
I personally are a humble local council candidate for the Leytonstone ward of the London Borough of Waltham Forest and my manifesto includes:
1. Lower council tax.
2. Proper child protection and services for the disabled.
3. Encouraging local businesses and inform pubs and clubs that on certain days of the week that Environmental Health Officers will have a night off and won't be inspecting pubs and clubs........
Interesting that Martin says - governments forget that they are there to serve you not to be your masters-.I keep hearing DC saying much the same but no mention of the smoking ban.
Incidentally there is another debate on in the daily Telegraph. Debate 2010. you,re the new prime minister. What will you do in your first year in power. Amend the smoking ban.Votes and comments needed
Well, I for one am glad that neither Mr Cullip nor Mr Coome are standing in my area, because I like their policies very much, and I’d then have to decide whether to vote for them or to vote for UKIP – whose policies I also like very much! Just having a choice of the Big Three (which I count as one single party these days) or UKIP makes life much easier!
Here’s hoping that both candidates do well in their respective areas on the 6th – then, hopefully, they can make my decision more difficult for me when the next GE comes around!
