Tales to take your breath away

A colleague has just brought this to my attention:
The flip-top cigarette pack is one of the most successful pieces of packaging design in history. TankBooks pay homage to this iconic form by employing it in the service of great literature. We have launched a series of books designed to mimic cigarette packs – the same size, packaged in flip-top cartons with silver foil wrapping and sealed in cellophane ... TankBooks are for people on the move, lovers of literature and connoisseurs of design. Try one and you’ll be hooked.

PS. I think they're great.

Just wait till Nanny focuses her beady eye on this caper.
I can just see them demanding blank covering on these books on the grounds of 'too much information'.
Or on the grounds that it might encourage smokers if they were reminded of a cigarette package.
Us smokers should strongly object to this on the grounds of inequality, because our freedom of information as a minority group has been denied to us on the grounds that our freedom of choice has been taken from us when buying an item for a legal habit.
What's good for the goose should be good for the gander!
Love the Hemingway. There was once a fashion for cigarette packet covers - like sticking your banana republic maroon passport inside an old British 007 black cover. I'm sure this will come back, with some amusing slogans replacing the brand names.
Anti-smoking groups want to ban Ecigs because they look like cigarettes, so will these be banned because they also look like cigarettes.
Given the response of some people to e-cigs, I won't be a bit surprised to see a chorus of disapproval for these new books.
"I wouldn't be seen dead reading one of them. What a prat I'd look like, pulling out what looks like a packet of fags, and sliding a book out of it. Give me the real thing any day, bound in leather, and printed on vellum, and weighing half a ton like proper books should."
Have to admit it: they DO look rather cool !
TankBooks should think about handing a few out in the school playground.
I'd LOVE to see Miss Primm's reaction...........
I think these are brilliant and whether or not we want to read the books, a great tool to use as a form of '2 fingers' at the government and their plain packaging for cigarettes! Smokers could even use these to carry their cigs around instead of carrying a grey box - put the book into the grey box instead!
