Hotels that offer a welcome for smokers
Monday, January 18, 2010
Smokers Welcome, the website that was launched on 1st July 2007 to help people find a "smoker-friendly" pub following the introduction of the smoking ban, has now introduced a section featuring hotels with bedrooms where you can light up.
The new service is a result of public demand and some gentle lobbying by Forest.

Note: information on smoker-friendly hotels is changing all the time so always check before you book (and before you arrive) that smoking rooms are still available.

I never thought I'd see the day when this added nightmare to booking a hotel would actually happen.
Its bad enough trying to figure out ones criteria when looking for a hotel, like location to city/transport/venues etc without blowing your brains trying to figure out if you will be able to stay in the damm place after all that.
Jesus christ, life is surely getter awful tough, it would put you right off.
However rant over, but it is a good facility all the same, however much an added restriction.
As the british isles are on my hit list for hols because of their draconian smoking laws, I hope they will start doing continental hotels as well.
I came across the very same problem when booking my hol recently in Athens through Expedia, all hotel descriptions say No Smoking Rooms but that doesent necessarily mean no smoking rooms.
I found this out the hard way, because as the default No Smoking Rooms come up on Requests on the booking form I asked Expedia if a smoking room was available but they didnt answer, so I had to email the hotel itself who informed me that they had smoking rooms and booked me in.
Then I read today that 'experts' are breeding sheep that dont fart and it will save farmers paying leuro for sheep and 12euro per cow to offset the methane!
Christ, even the poor animals cant escape the madness.

The notice on the front desk of the Travel Lodge (or Premier Inn or whatever it was; this was the year before last, i.e. the last time I stayed there) said there were no longer any smoking rooms because of 1) consumer demand and 2) industry trends.
Firstly, I doubt if, of these 'consumers', any smoking consumers were for it and as for non-smokers what would it have to do with them since hotel rooms are private and do not encroach?
Secondly, industry trends?...I mean, what are they, sheep? A hotel brand makes its choice to alienate a sizeable portion of its clientele or it doesn't!
Express by Holiday Inn has been my choice this last year and a half
I booked a travel lodge just after July 2007. I was assured it was a smoking room. When I arrived, I was told that because of the law it was no smoking. I complained that it was false trades description. Given that I arrived at a very late hour, it didn't go down well to be told that if we didn't like it we could go elsewhere. That is how smokers are treated by the hospitality idustry. I say boycott Travel Lodge. I have done ever since.
Hi, new to the site but I know that the cruise industry is now heading down this route.
I think it is going to affect their booking tremendously - and just cannot see why an allocation of rooms for smokers can't be done especially now that they are getting rid of the smoke friendly lounges. It means outer decks only which is no joke in some weathers.
More worrying is the ban for the staff who obviously live onboard.
"I mean, what are they, sheep? "
Yep, Adeimantus.............that's EXACTLY what they are !
