Smokin' Festival: music to our ears

This weekend The Jolly Brewer pub in Lincoln will host a four-day music festival in the garden. According to landlady Emma Chapman, the festival is "dedicated to every smoker who got chucked out in the cold after the 2007 smoking ban came into force".

A supporter of the Save Our Pubs & Clubs campaign, Emma has dubbed it a Smokin' Festival and Saturday has been set aside so that disgruntled smokers can make their voices heard.

Emma is also organising a petition against the smoking ban. Save Our Pubs & Clubs beer mats will be on display and bar staff will be wearing our campaign t-shirts.

Pat Nurse has more details HERE.

I can't make it because I'm in Scotland this weekend but it's a great initiative and I hope it goes well. Hopefully we can organise more events like this in future.

My Wife and I have just come back from Lincoln and all I can say is this ban nonsense as to be stopped whatever the cost! Scotland has now introduced yet another law banning happy hour & deals on cheap booze. This is not an health issue but a control factor nothing more. The Scots will swallow it hook & line then it will be here.

Mind you,the intellectual capacity of the Scottish Executive only extends its way to the word 'ban'.

...and, today, England and Wales launch the, widely-criticised, 'booze ASBO'.

We must applaud Emma Chapman. She seems to be one out 50 000 publicans who are actually trying to do something.
However, where are the other 49 999?

To me, it is extremely odd that there are not 49 999 pubs having such events, since it is in their interests to have the smoking ban amended.

Why are pubs not organising events such as this in large numbers? Would not the cost be minimal? Surely, a band would perform for a minimal cost since it is in their interests that pubs should survive?

What is wrong with publicans that they cannot see this?
