My brush with swine flu
Well, that was 24 hours I'll be happy to forget. It began at 3.00am on Friday when I woke up feeling nauseous and dizzy. I spent the next few hours in the bathroom - vomiting, sweating profusely, and feeling permanently faint. At times it felt as if I was somersaulting, over and over, head first, into a deep, dark well.
The next morning, after I had struggled back to bed, with a large plastic bowl by my side, my wife called the local surgery. Ten minutes later a doctor rang back. Clearly thinking I had swine flu, he went through a list of symptoms and even volunteered to see me at home!
(Can you remember the last time a doctor offered you a home visit? I can't.)
Anyway, although I did have some symptoms of swine flu, the dizziness seemed to persuade him that I had what he called a "middle-ear infection".
"If you feel any worse," he said, "come in to the surgery."
Well, I did develop an increasingly severe headache (another symptom of swine flu) but I resisted the temptation to pop round.
After all, as Antony Worrall Thompson pointed out HERE, you don't know what you might catch.
UPDATE: I'm having a quiet weekend, watching the golf and the cricket. I may not have swine flu but I still need a little pampering.

Middle ear infection?
Last time I felt that way was after I'd had a few beers, a glass of cider, two or three sherries, and several glasses of wine. Oh, and some gin. I was fine until I climbed into bed and turned out the light, and next thing it felt like I was somersaulting, over and over, head first, into a deep well.
Erm, are you quite sure it was "middle ear infection"...?
A pregnant friend of mine was ill last week with what is probably normal flu, because she didn't feel any different to how she's felt with flu in the past, but the GP didn't want to take any chances and so treated her as though it was swine flu.
My point is, that I think cases of swine flu are obviously over reported - at least having the country in a panic over this deadly disease, justifies keeping Sir Liam in his job.
I like the picture, someone must be in a bad way if they are vomiting lightning lol.
Anyway hope you get well soon.
Sorry you have been ill, Simon. Hope you are in recovery now. If it is a bit slow, find a room in your house where you are **allowed to smoke and smoke part of a big fat cigar - even a humble cigarette would do. Let the healing benefits of tobacco smoke not escape from the room. Let a fug build up and keep it in there. Visit it from time to time. There is no faster and more efficient way for the healing benefits of nicotine to quickly enter the bloodstream. Your body will only take as much as it needs to help heal you and build up immunity for the future.
[**Allowed? Surely you make your own rules?]
As you convalesce, you may have time to read more concerning the benefits of nicotine that we are all being deprived of.

I agree, Pat, but it is also quite amusing to see how they are all floundering around with the conflicting advice they are giving out.
So they continue their important job of "governing" us sheep.
Maybe this latest pharmaceutically contrived mess will prove one of the "tipping points" to bring Big Brother crashing down amid the chaos of his own making.
In case you havn't seen it, here is a good piece of advice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfIHkwSzayE
The flu season is in full force in my ton in Michigan. All my family members are sick in my home and I have been on antibiotics for the last 6 days. A hint that I learn t after doing some reading on medication was "kiwi drug" recommends Flonase over the counter helps with flu and cold symptoms. so at least now I can breathe through my nose properly with it.
