My (missed) date with Carol Thatcher

Yesterday's shennanigins meant that I missed the annual tobacco trade lunch sponsored by the Association of Independent Tobacco Specialists (among others). This year's event, like last year, was held at Lords Cricket Ground in St John's Wood.
So instead of attending a champagne reception in the Long Room Bar, I was at Television Centre waiting to be interviewed on the BBC News Channel. (To be fair, they did offer me a voucher to get something from the BBC Canteen but it wasn't quite the same.)
Ninety minutes later, when everyone was sitting down to a no doubt scrumptious lunch in the world famous Long Room at the home of cricket, I was back in central London waiting to talk to Matthew Bannister on Radio 2 without so much as a glass of water!
Worse, I missed the guest speaker. Last year we were entertained by George Galloway. The year before it was Boris Johnson. This year the speaker was ... Carol Thatcher. I'm told she was "very entertaining!".
If I can find out any more I'll let you know.

Shame you missed Carol, Simon, but from what I hear you were not alone. Her mother seems to have missed her as well!
