From Oban to Iona - and back
Just back from Scotland. On Saturday we were in Glasgow (well, Hamilton) to watch Dundee United beat Accies 1-0. The following morning we drove up to Oban and on Monday we caught the ferry to Craignure on the Isle of Mull.
From Craignure we drove across the island on single-track roads to Fionnphort where we boarded a much smaller ferry that took us to the Isle of Iona (above) with its famous Abbey. (John Smith, the former Labour leader, is buried in the cemetery overlooking the sea.)
The weather, like the location, was perfect. The sea - in colour if not in temperature - was Caribbean-esque.
Yesterday we drove home via Loch Fyne, stopping at the magnificent Brambles tea shop in Main Street, Inveraray. If you're ever in these parts I thoroughly recommend it. Especially the chocolate cake.

Sorry Simon, but I've been told that chocolate cake is bad for my health.
Does 'Brambles' cater for smokers?
Oh my god, I see that ireland isnt the only country with blots on the landscape at their sea shores.
Guess the brown envelope brigade is alive and well in Scotland too.
