TPA highlights cost of Big Government
Monday, November 16, 2009
The Taxpayers Alliance has today announced its first nationwide cinema advertisement - the first, they claim, by a UK campaign group for ten years.
The advert promotes a new book, Ten Years On: Britain Without the European Union, which took 22,000 orders in its first week.
Chief executive Matthew Elliott says: "This advert focuses light heartedly on the very real costs of the EU, and features a number of brief scenes exploring different ways that the EU rips all of us off."
The advert can be viewed online HERE. Copies of Ten Years On are available HERE.

The TPA is very much becoming a national treasure in every sense of the word. Matt Elliott and Mark Wallace of the TPA are incredibly erudite and personable people, offering a breke on profligate spending by our masters.
I wish them and their campaign well.
As a member of the TPA, so do I!
I have just nicked this from Dick Puddlecote's blog.
Lord Renton is asking suggestions that should be in the Queen's speech.

Well done TPA. A great way to get the message across.
Just three things to say:
BRILLIANT !
BRILLIANT !
BRILLIANT !
Hope Central Office goes to the flicks.
If only they could get on the telly (as they would be able to in the States).............
I'm not so impressed. I support them wholeheartedly (in fact they are crucial), but I've always regarded the TPA as a serious organisation, and this commercial comes across to me as too light-hearted. I understand that ads have to 'grab the attention' of cinema goers but it's too old-fashioned in its portrayal of the Europeans (e.g. the stereotype of the Frenchman saying "Magnifique!"). The metaphors are a bit too obvious too; it feels a bit 'fringe'
Compare with UKIP's DVDs on Europe which are serious and well-delivered pieces.
That said, I wish them the best of luck: the public should know the realities of the EU
Adeimantus -
You've got a point, it's true.
However, my 'Brilliant !' referred more to the concept than the actual content.
But at least it's a start: most cinema-goers (sadly) haven't even heard of Christopher Booker et al - so it's probably best to keep it simple.................for now.
I'd already sent away for the book. Sounds just what we need to combat the argument that we cannot survive without membership of the EU. Well done, TPA.
To digress, but only slightly, pop over to the F2C Lounge Bar, 'Benefits of Smoking'. Read the recent comments. An actual job centre advert for recruitment to ASH - also study the equally costly quango puttng the Ad out. Note the brilliant salary for just 30 hours work a week - and it's described as a permanent job.
Sorry, here's a link to my post above.

Hi Margot - nice to see you back!
