The final countdown

Today is the closing date for submissions to the public consultation on the future of tobacco control in the UK. Top Tory blogger Iain Dale draws attention to the Forest e-card HERE.

Is Iain Dale a regular visitor here? I don't see him about much. If not, I can't help but think that I might have had a small hand in this.

Last Friday night, in response to reading about it here, I posted a furious message about it on Tom Harris' blog, whose current topic was Iain Dale's request for tales of events where people had found themselves asking, "Is this really happening?" The next morning, at 9am, Iain Dale left a message on the same thread. I wondered at the time whether he'd read my earlier message. But, since he hates smoking, I doubted he'd be much interested in it. But perhaps he did read it, and perhaps he was interested.

Anyway, it's a pleasing thought to me that, if I hadn't posted that message, Iain Dale might not have learned about this latest monstrosity, and not remarked upon it in his highly influential blog. Either that, or he read about it here today. It highlights the importance of spreading information far and wide. One never knows who is going to read it.

Anyway, good for Iain Dale. It's warming to learn that even people who hate smoking can see the iniquity of this latest proposal.

Frank: I think you will find Iain and Simon are good mates, they used to work together a number of years ago. At the risk of sounding like a Tory Party propagandists, they may dislike smoking but would never dream of banning something on that basis.

I think this is a coup for Forest as Iain Dale is a widely read and respected political blogger. 80% of the comments are sympathetic towards us.

I'm sure you're right, Dave.

I'm hoping you're right Dave. I hate many things, but understand that others enjoy them. What right have I got to complain? None. I'm not complaining, that is right in a tolerant society, irrespecitve of likes and dislikes. It is called personal choice by informed adults. As long as it is legal, what is the problem?
I'm not into creating a super-human race (identical and boring) that was attempted in history and thank-goodness,triumphantly destroyed - live and let live. Enjoy your short time whilst you're here.
