Active resistance

Joe Jackson - who now lives in Berlin - has THIS to say about the high court ruling in Germany which offers some hope for those who wish to smoke in pubs and bars.

Germany must be reminded that our Government have lost a fortune in excise duty and tax. It is said that 400,000 smokers have quit (although this is a false figure) and wet sales are down by 1.6 million pints every day. The Government cannot carry on losing money like this.

Perhaps, Chas, that is why the motorist is getting hammered, yet again, for all kinds of stealth taxes! The GREEN issue is a wonderful smokescreen (no pun intended!), even though it is also a load of b****cks.

What the hell is happening on here?

I never wrote that stupid piece (above) which is signed Shirley Duffy, but then attributed to me.

Not sure what is happening with the posts just now, but I am assuming that Chas has posted the question to (me) Lyn, 'What are you talking about?'

If this is the case, I was actually agreeing with you Chas and at the same time pointing out that as the government are losing so much money on cigarette and drink taxes, perhaps that is why they are hitting drivers so hard financially, but in the 'name' of being Green.

I don't believe for one moment the figures they spout on the number of people who have given up, I think it would only be in their dreams that even that number had signed up to try and quit - but trying to quit and actually quitting are 2 very different things!

Of course, the government are also losing out big time on taxes as many people now go abroad to buy, perfectly legally, for their own use, but at half the price, or even less, than we would pay here!

Shirley Duffy or what ever your real name is. It's easy to use other persons names and it is also easy to trace you.
You are just another dishonest anti-smoker.

Peter Thurgood, on a lighter matter in the London Lite tonight was a letter about Boris Johnson, was that you? Bit obsequeous peu t'etre,

Dave, I did indeed write that piece, but I did it on the This is London website, http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-mayor/
where I am often leaving comments, especially about my super hero, Boris.

My wife brings the London Lite in, and when I read your post, I had a look, and there it was.

I did all I could to help get him elected, and I am more than pleased with the results so far.

In case anyone's in doubt, I take responsibility for the above. [But not for previous SD postings]

Just reinforcing Chas' point Shirley. It's very naughty to post using someone elses name. Very naughty indeed.
