He said it!

Message from Brian Monteith, policy director of The Free Society, who earlier today was at Frankfurt Airport waiting for a connecting flight to Nigeria. Apparently, he's still there:
"My Apple Mac's internet clock showed Central European Standard Time as the same as Nigeria - but Germany is in fact an hour ahead and so I missed my flight!!!! Now I'm staying in Frankfurt for two nights waiting on my next flight on Thursday!! What a PLONKER!"
I couldn't possibly comment.

It's amazing how even the most innocuous post prompts a string of comments attacking the EU or promoting UKIP. I'm no fan of the EU, but this is NOT a UKIP message board. It's repetitive, increasingly tedious and will drive people away. Please stop. (Note: the same applies to The Free Society blog.)

Brian you have my full sympathy. I drove from Rheins to Luxembourg on the hunt for some cheap fags and not finding the shop I realised I was 1 hour behind schedule. Driving at 120 MPM for 3-4 hours is tiring. I had to use the map in my head. Brussels, Lille and then Calais as I did not have a chance to refer to the hardcopy. I got stopped for speeding on the French border and did not do much for Anglo-European relations as I was often showing them my ability to draw my bow. I was their on time but got ripped off on he ferry.
Never write a post when back from the pub. "I was there on time and got ripped off on the ferry".
So how much did you actually save on your fags. Dave? Last time I was in Luxembourg [last year], there wasn't much difference with Belgium. I travel free - so in real terms - how much?
My sympathies Brian. Been there - done that - got a drawerful of bored tearstained T shirts. Why not use your time wisely and nip out into the streets, or into the bars, and ask the locals whether they really do want to come under total EU Control. Golden opportunity?
One has to be prepared for anything when flying these days its just totally unreliable everywhere. I dont think we should mention the price of fags abroad for our own good it might just give the ASH spys/pharma nazis more ideas
about bans and border controls, after all its much more profitable for them to catch a cigarette smuggler than an illegal immigrant.
Hope I'm not being premature but a chink might be appearing in the armour, a well known irish journalist/economist was on a newstalk show last night and said that the smoking ban was a disgrace sending people out in the cold to smoke and gave Belgium as an example of having a smoking ban that suits everybody. At least its refreshing that for the first time somebody in ireland is championing smokers on live TV. so maybe reality is hitting home, what with the downturn in the economy etc people might be getting more realistic and down to earth at last, it has also been announced that there has been been a 2% increase in the amount of smokers since the ban, so therefore I fear that we are going to get more nasty regulations from our nasty petty leaders.
The new jobs market seems to be in petty enforcements of new laws and regulations and more jobs for NGO's. In america they have armed patrol units on the mexican border but in ireland they now want to empoly immigrant officers while there are already 122 immigrant related agencies.
I was so stunned to learn from this site that the eu had already sliced up the british isles into regions and that our country's name and culture will only be a token gesture in the future that I wrote to a well known newspaper journalist about it and he answered by saying that he had heard about that scandal and intends to write an article on it before the vote on the lisbon treaty.
Good for you Ann. I often think about you and your lone battle out there. So very much depends on the Lisbon Treaty not being signed in Ireland. The dirty tricks brigade seem to be doing a mighty job to prevent the Irish people knowing the truth of the matter and in stifling any opposition. I wonder if your journalist would be allowed to publish such an article. I hope he will write it and hope that you can contact other journalists and people with some clout.
There are many vidoes around on other sites, to give him, and you, more knowledge. And the "European Union Project" booklet showing the map and much more beside can be obtained by emailing the publisher at info@theeuroprobe.org.
I would hasten to add that this is not a UKIP publication as they are running a clean matter-of-fact campaign which avoids sensationalism. However, their own video "Remote Control" can be seen on the UKIP website and is full of the factual detail a journalist would need. In particular it takes one right inside the EU to watch their corrupt parliament in live action.
Good luck to you. Ireland needs people like you with your intelligence and dedication.
In fairness, Brian has stated that missing his plane was his own fault in not checking time zones, however, I agree that many airports are now in a state of confusion and I am sure it is not by accident that the hugely expensive new Heathrow Terminal proved to be such a disastrous flop. .
