House rules

SC100.jpg I am grateful to many of the people who have posted a comment on this blog. Some of your comments have been illuminating and much of it is useful feedback (even if I don't always agree with you!). I should point out, though, that this is a blog not a message board - there is a difference.

Some of the more recent comments/posts are not in the spirit of a blog. Instead of responding to a blog post or previous comment, some of you seem to be on this site with the principal aim of promoting or recruiting members to your own website/forum/community. It's what I call cuckoo in the nest syndrome.

I'd prefer not to moderate what is supposed to be a laissez faire style of blog, but please don't abuse it. Our principal goal is to create a distinctive forum for a genuine battle of ideas, not to promote third party groups or campaigns.

Obviously it's your blog, Simon, and it's ultimately up to you to direct it's 'shape'. I'm glad to see, true to your libertarian position, that you don't intend to start removing posts from the archive.

In fairness, I don't think anyone intended to 'abuse' it (rather a strong word). I think that it's a case of people with 'like minds' sharing information out of a sincere desire to protect liberties. Ultimately, the more informed people are, the better they can debate and argue in the battle of ideas.

Speaking personally, I am very appreciative of this blog as both a talking point and as a sort of junction, from which many paths for liberty seekers might emerge - and some will suit one personality more than another. I wonder if it would be possible for those paths to continue to be published, if external links carry a disclaimer saying something like "This group/movement/organisation has no connection with Forest"?

Would that make a difference?

Simon, I can see your point of veiw about blatant abuse , but providing a forum that may promote campaigns against a dispicable crusade is not such a bad thing,
In fact it should make you proud that there are many who appreciate this opportunity for like minded people to come together and explore the possibilties.
It can do no harm, and can only help in the fight.

I, too, really appreciate this website and blog and, if I have acted inappropriately, I sincerely apologise, Simon. I am extremely grateful to this site for putting me in touch with people who believe in the same principles, values and aims as I do. Had I not discovered this site, just now I would be feeling very disheartened, but thanks to this, I feel part of something positive and worthwhile.

I think you are referring to my post advertising the smoke ban protest at Bolton, Simon.

Indeed it is your blog and I accept your reprimand cordially. However, I notice that despite your reprimand you have had the courtesy to leave it there nevertheless. When all is said and done then you are not a bad old cove!
